“Eventually the alcohol sent me to sleep and woke me up three hours later with a throbbing pain in my head. I got up to chase it out of my system with water and aspirins and discovered that when the headache had gone, the idea remained. I felt better just thinking about it. Everyone kept telling me to take control of my life – a polite way of saying I should stop moaning – so that’s what I would do. I was no longer going to keep all the misery for myself, but share it around a bit to make the sides of this skewed triangle a little more even.”
